They stop growing as they believe that it would help the rooster to be away from a predator’s eye.

Due to bullying:

When a rooster receives repeated lessons of bullying from the alpha rooster or roosters of higher rank than him then, he may get completely silent. The tormenting affects their mental health. They get silent to save their skin.

How do I stop my rooster from crowing in the morning?

The ways to stop roosters from crowing in the morning are:

  • Confuse the roosters by tricking their internal clock. You can do so by using artificial light to extend their daytime a little which will make them think it’s a day when it’s the night. This way they will not crow in the morning, thinking it’s too early.
  • Use a rooster collar to reduce the loudness of their crowing. The collar helps in limiting their airflow to the voice box and ultimately reducing their crowing volume.
  • You may use a blackout box to keep them at night so they cannot see the light emerging in the morning. Their internal clock may insinuate them but repeating the process for a few nights may be helpful.
  • Keeping one rooster for your flock may help to stop the crawling in the morning. It is because the roosters would not find the need to mark their territory anymore which they do in the morning. There would be no competition for a rooster, thus it will help minimize the crowing.

How often do roosters crow? 

A rooster may crow on an average between 12 to 15 times a day. 

Some roosters may crow only at sunrise and some may do so all day long. Some may be too loud and some may be too silent. There is no perfect number of their crowing in a day.
